Summer 2010 Projects

Throughout the summer months district bond proceeds were used to renovate and improve our buildings in four areas:  safety, energy efficiency, infrastructure, and technology.

Safety was addressed through:
• Reconfiguration of the Shettler parking lot
• Access control installation on buildings external doors

Energy efficiency was addressed through:
• Installation of energy efficient boilers at the middle school and a water heater at the high school
• Insulation and a new roof at the middle school
• Energy efficient light bulbs installed district wide

Infrastructure improvements included:
• New lockers at the high school and middle school
• Gym floor resurfacing at the middle school
• Partial roof replacement at Beach Elementary

New technology was installed in:
• All secondary labs
• All building libraries
• Select vocational labs at the high school (through the use of vocational funds)
• Network closets

Along with facility improvements, student data will be utilized this year to drive improvements to our curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.  Using student performance data will allow staff to strategically address each student’s particular learning needs and ultimately, maximize each student’s potential.

We hope you share in our excitement about the possibilities the coming year brings.  Fruitport Community Schools is truly a wonderful place in which to learn and grow!

Sincerely,

Bob Szymoniak, Superintendent
