NALOPKTKPC About Cyber Activities is Coming to an End at FCS

Internet Lingo Translation:
Not a lot of people know that keeping parents clueless about cyber activities is coming to an end at Fruitport Community Schools.

Since 2003, the Attorney Generals office has arrested more than 150 adults who were seeking to harm children by first befriending them online. To help keep our students safe, Fruitport Community Schools has joined forces with the Michigan Attorney Generals Office, the Muskegon County Child Abuse Council, the Fruitport Township Police Department, the Muskegon County Sheriffs Department, the Ottawa County Sheriffs Department, the Michigan State Police, the Muskegon County Prosecutor's Office, and Pathways MI to help educate our parents on the Michigan Cyber Safety Initiative.

Information on how to: access the MI Sex Offender Registry, search for and access your child's social networking site (My Space, Facebook), view Internet history logs, and modify computer settings for safer Internet surfing will be provided.

Mark your calendar and plan to attend the MI CSI Community Seminar on Tuesday, September 28, at 7:00 p.m. in the Fruitport Middle School Media Center. For more information, contact Sandy Sorensen @ (231) 865-3128 ext. 3017 or ssorensen@fruitportschools.net.

MI CSI Student Assemblies

Throughout the week of September 27th, first through eighth grade students will learn about cyber safety by attending age-appropriate MI CSI assemblies. A representative from the Attorney General's office will emphasize the 3-KEEPs of Internet safety for students ~ KEEP Safe, KEEP Away, KEEP Telling. In addition to the 3-KEEPs message, students fourth grade and up will learn about common Internet predator grooming techniques and appropriate responses to cyber harassment. Middle school students will also be introduced to the consequences of cyber bullying. Be sure to ask your student what they learned from the MI CSI assembly.

The links on the will provide parents with necessary cyber safety information.
